Arriving in Denver via the I-25 late Wednesday we chose a nondescript hotel adjacent to downtown for ease of access to the meetings on the agenda. These meetings are with the same restaurant group as took us on our travels to Nashville late 2016. We are hoping for good new things on the horizon in association with this group. Excuses for travel to Denver are just fine by us. It’s a wonderful city. We highly recommend all the sports venues and many of the live music venues.
These days were souly dedicated to the research and development of a project in a specific building in LODO. Part of that r&d included visits to the culinary scene of downtown. Thursday coffee and lunch were grabbed at Union Station as was breakfast on Thursday. This is a great central hub to meet at and take in the sights and sounds of a bustling downtown in a major metropolitan city. Once again the multitude of cranes represented the signs of growth we have seen absolutely everywhere we visited during the 2017 snowbird escape.
Union Lodge #1 was our meeting point Thursday evening. This is a worthwhile stop for an interesting craft cocktail. We caught an Uber for dinner reservations at Guard and Grace, a beautifully appointed steakhouse with a cool, ritzy vibe owned by TAG restaurant group. Once our crew arrived, we were escorted to a large booth with high back banquet lending to full privacy. Our server John James arrived to introduce himself. We ordered the Oak Fired Carrots appetizer the chef on our team had specifically recommended as well as Lamb Raviolis. A complimentary spoonful of sashimi goodness was delivered first. As our courses arrived, it became evident they were presented by the hands that had personally prepared them, complete with detailed description. We all agreed this was a nice touch that added to the overall experience. Steaks are the specialty of the house so we opted for family style service to partake of a variety. Prime Bone in Ribeye, Angus New York and a Filet Mignon Filet (Prime, Angus and Grass Fed) with sides of whipped potatoes, hand cut fries and crispy Brussels sprouts. Divine. Every single bite. Dinner conversation wove around the business at hand and on to topics and people I made note of to research soon. Friday was filled with walk throughs and number crunching and Saturday ended on a lighter note with a trip to the ballpark! Rockies vs the Dodgers. Pregame, we experienced the personality of the surrounding neighborhood which eeks into the developing RINO district. Italian Beef Sandwiches were a delicious start at Mile High Vienna Stand followed by beers at Ginn Mill and once the six of us had gathered we were off to the game. Coors Field is a great park and this game showed us a much more crowded stands then anytime we have been before. Attendance was announced at 48,012. We sat in Section 122 Row 26, lending a great field view as well as a beautiful view of the sun setting over the snow covered Rockies. We got to see Kershaw pitch for the Dodgers and we witnessed first hand the great start the Rockies ball club is experiencing with their 4-2 win in this game. Our laughs were fulfilled by the Rockies Mascot, Dinger. Good business, good fun and good friends was the theme of these Denver days.
As I close this out we are on our flight to Cancun. Spring fling play date with children and grandchildren has arrived. Yeehah!** #travelwithme
